12 THINGS ALL BLONDES NEED FOR HEALTHY HAIR
Healthy hair is the new black! I am THE healthy hair colourist and stylist and I know present you with THE Top 12 things ALL blondes need for the healthiest hair of their damn life!
A silk pillowcase and scrunchie
@thegoodnightco and @slipsilkpillowcase are who i recommend.
Silk is stronger than cotton fabric, despite what its light feel and smooth texture may suggest. This makes it a better investment than cotton pillowcases in the long run. Silk pillowcases are gentler on the hair of people with fragile hair than rough cotton pillowcases. The friction from cotton on split end prone hair can create more split ends, making hair breakage worse.
A leave in conditioning treatment for BEFORE you blow dry
@elevenaustralia miracle treatment or @redken acidic bonding treatment.
The best leave in hair treatments nurture and fortify all hair types. They are used after you wash your hair and before you style it. They're usually applied to towel-dried hair. Unlike traditional conditioners, they're not washed out. Another factor you need to consider while choosing a leave-in hair treatment is that the hair product is formulated for your specific hair concerns. If your hair is dry, you need a leave-in conditioner that possesses moisturising agents that condition your tresses and make them smooth and soft.
A heat protectant for AFTER you have blow dried BEFORE you straighten!
@redken iron shape is my favourite!
2 forms of heat protectant is a necessity for EVERYONE who heat styles their hair! Redken Iron Shape 11 is a thermal holding spray that protects and repairs hair for a silky smooth finish when heat styling. Iron shape features a lightweight formula that won't leave hair sticky and it offers anti-frizz protection.
A weekly at home rinse out treatment
@elevenaustralia miracle hair mask is my favourite!
Sometimes more hydration is a must! Think of your hair like you when your hungover…. Sometimes you are gonna need the hydrolyte to get yourself feeling better when just water isn’t enough. In this case just using conditioner is like water but the rinse out treatment is gonna be the hydrolyte your hair needs!
A blonde rinse out treatment
@evohair platinum blonde toning conditioner or light beige toning conditioner are my favourites
Not to be over used but a toning conditioner can help you save money instead of going into the salon to get a professional toner, an at home rinse out toner will help preserve the tone and shine of your hair in between salon visits.
A water filter for your shower
@filtered__beauty have a black one and a chrome one!
There is many toxins in water that can interfere with how your hair holds colour and how it can also hold a style as well. The quality of the water effects everything but @filtered__beauty have created a filter that will change everything for you. I can’t shower without one now! My hair feels softer and silkier, I don’t have to tone my hair as much AND my skin feels softer too!! I 110% recommend getting one for your shower!
A bonding shampoo and conditioner
@olaplexau OR @redken acidic bonding shampoo and conditioners are AMAZINGGGG.
When your colourist is lightening your hair, in order to change the colour of your hair permanently, the lightness breaks down your natural melanin in your hair which also breaks the disulphide bonds. Disulphide bonds are 1 of 3 bonds in the hair that give it structure and they are permanently broken during colour + chemical services to reform the new chemical makeup. Once these are damaged they can’t be repaired and as such the structure of the hair becomes weaker and weaker every time you lighten.
A bonding shampoo like olaplex or the acidic bonding line from redken are my favourites as they rebuild AND keep the internal structure of the hair in tact and prevent further damage from being done even after you stop using it.
A regular trim at LEAST once every 6 weeks...
I do recommend a dusting every 4 and then a proper cut every 8-12 weeks. A trim and a haircut are not the same!!! A hill I am willing to die on is that they ARE NOT the same. Maintaining length + changing your style is different in my eyes 100%…. What is my source? 9 years of hairdressing and SICK TO DEATH of scissor happy hairdressers🙃
Your hair WILL NOT grow unless you cut the split ends off. A haircut is going to be needed no matter what, for one of 3 reasons:
1. you cannot remember the last time you had a haircut
2. you can see through the ends of your hair and it feels thin when you brush through it
3. you can SEE the split ends!
A soft bristle brush
The @glampalmaustralia_official brushes are phenomenal! They have soft bristle brushes which glide easier through your hair rather than a comb. NEVER BRUSH YOUR HAIR WHEN IT IS WET. Wet hair stretches SO MUCH more than when it is dry which means it is also more fragile. stick to brushing it when its wet. If you are brushing it before blow drying opt for @thewetbrush original detangler. They are the BEST when it comes to detangling knot and ALWAYS make sure you are brushing from the ends right up to your roots!
A microfibre hair towel
The one I use is the @originalmineral Turban Wrap and I love it so much! The friction from a cotton towel can rough up the cuticle of your hair for less-than-smooth results. A microfibre towel will treat your hair with care to help prevent frizz from ruining your locks. Plus, you'll spend less much less money on anti-frizz hair products. I keep my hair in the towel after I have washed it, whilst I do my makeup before going into the salon just so its out my face. I can then blowdry and style it after I have finished my makeup! I much prefer gettin ready this way - wash, makeup, blow dry/curl. It is the only way I keep my hair fresh and my makeup on fleek!
Patience, trust and RESEARCH
Rome wasn't built in a day neither is your dream hair. Do the research into looking for the hairdresser with the vibe you want, the skills you need and please don’t be afraid to ask questions! Perhaps book in a consultation first with them, just to see if the stylist you have chosen is actually the stylist who has the skills to execute the look you want. For example - I do NOT cut short hair and I do not take on any new clients who have short hair anymore. I only do existing clients who have been with me for years, because I specialise in long hair! I don’t LOVE LOVE LOVE doing short haircuts so I will always pass these recommendations onto someone who eats, sleeps, BREATHES short haircuts.
We put thousands of dollars of education into our craft and on things we are most passionate about being the BEST at! My advice for those looking for a new stylist? Check out their instagram to see if they are good at the that matches your inspiration photos and goals! Mine is @zoebarberahair ;)
